The FCCU is a side by side reactor / regenerator design. The reactor is fitted with UOP’s  proprietary riser termination hardware and close coupled cyclones. The riser also features  UOP’s lift gas technology. The regenerator is a combustor design and is fitted with two back mix  catalyst coolers to enable effective residue cracking capability.    Reactor / Regenerator / Flue Gas / Main Fractionator Sections  Feed is pumped from the feed drum through the preheat exchanger train where Main  Fractionator product and pump around streams heat up the feed. The heated feed is sprayed  into the riser reactor through the injector nozzles where it is mixed with lift gas and hot  regenerated catalyst. The oil / catalyst mixture flows up the riser with the heavier oils cracking  into lighter components. At the riser termination the catalyst and oil are separated through a  cyclone system. The oil vapors continue out of the reactor to the Main Fractionator.
